Harlem provides services and supports for eligible students with disabilities in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, and applicable State and federal law. Students eligible for special education services are entitled to a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment appropriate to their individual needs.
Families are important members of the educational team and are encouraged to participate in evaluations, eligibility meetings, IEP/504 meetings, and ongoing communication about their student's progress.
Parents/guardians with concerns about a student's learning or disability-related needs may begin with the classroom teacher, principal or Student Support Services. Families may also contact the District regarding Child Find, evaluation requests, procedural safeguards, or Section 504.
