Complete an evaluation of the District's social and emotional learning curriculum. In Progress
A survey was conducted with staff members from grades Pre-K-8th which included classroom teachers and support staff. Over 73% of the participants agreed that Second Step was an effective SEL curriculum and 83% stated they were comfortable in presenting SEL lessons. One suggestion for improvement was to have additional supplemental lessons with little preparation time. The social worker department also discussed the use of Second Step and agreed that the Second Step curriculum is an effective SEL curriculum. With any curriculum, the overall effectiveness is based on how well the curriculum is being used and implemented. This is seen in the survey data as well because those who reported that Second Step was not an effective curriculum was approximately 26% which also matched the number of responses that reported that they only spend 0-15 minutes per week utilizing the curriculum.
