The Harlem School District relies on substitutes to fill all positions within the District. Substitutes allow the District to maintain normal operations during an employee's absence. Qualifications required to become a substitute depend on the position. Other than substitute teachers, most positions require similar qualifications. In order to apply to become a subsitute, follow the steps below as the application process follows the same process as all employment opportunities. Subsitute Teacher
The Illinois State Board of Education provides this document as an overview of the requirements to get your substitute teaching license. Please note, in order to become a substitute teacher in Harlem, you must first obtain your substitute teaching license through the Illinois State Board of Education. This document includes the required steps. Once you obtain your license, you must then apply with the Harlem School District. Click on the Apply Now button or visit Employment at the top of the page.
Substitute Positions
The Harlem School District has substitute positions available for a variety of positions within the school district. Click here to see the job descriptions for the substitute positions available. Unless otherwise specified in the job description, the following qualification must be met to become a substitute in the Harlem School District:
Must be 18 years of age or older
