Parent/Guardian Expectations and Communication
Evacuate
Evacuations may occur for various reasons. When an evacuation occurs, families will be notified of the evacuation and will be provided directions regarding the next steps for families. Sometimes an evacuation event will require the District to implement its reunification plan. It is important for families to follow the directions in the messaging and to come to the school unless directed.
ALICE/Lockdown
In the event that a school has a threat on school property, staff and students will begin the ALICE protocol. Information regarding the situation will be shared with families through email and phone call. Messaging will include information about the situation and directions for families. It is important that families follow the directions included in the messaging.
Secure
When a “Secure” is initiated, the building will be secured and no one is able to enter or exit the building. Parents and guardians should not come to the building during this time as the “Lockout” has been issued to keep everyone safe. Oftentimes, a lockout/secure is implemented for medical emergencies in the building, police activity in the area, or other situations.
Shelter
During a shelter-in-place for severe weather, the District will communicate with families when able. The communication will include details regarding the situation and directions for families regarding the next steps. Depending on the weather event, families may need to pick their students up earlier or later than normal. The District may also need to implement its reunification plan either on-site or off-site.
