Special Education
The Harlem School District provides students with Special Education eligibility a continuum of services and placement based on each student’s individual education plan (IEP). Students with Special Education eligibility receive the support and specialized instruction that is stated in the student’s IEP to provide the student a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
Students with disabilities who do not qualify for an individualized education program under the IDEA may qualify for services under Section 504 if the student: (1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; (2) has a record of physical or mental impairment; or (3) is regarded as having a physical or mental impairment. Please contact Heidi Lange or Shannon Rice with any inquiries about your student's eligibility. See below for contact information.
Section 504
The Harlem School District provides students with disabilities accommodations and services under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 under Section 504 in order to provide students with disabilities full access to their education and other school-related activities.
Private/Parochial Students
The Harlem School District shall consult annually with representatives from private schools to determine which children will receive services, the special education and related services to be provided, where the services will be delivered, and how the services will be evaluated.
