Samantha Disch Class of 2020

"I was almost finished with my junior year, and didn’t really have an idea of what I wanted to do after high school. I was on the path of wanting to become a writer/journalist. At school, many kids made a big deal about not wanting to come to Career-Con because it was boring, or it was a waste of time. Of course when I asked my mom to stay home she said no. For Career Con everyone picks 3 sessions in which they learn about jobs they’re interested in. One of mine was “Government”. When I chose that session, I expected political topics, or maybe some social studies teachers. When I arrived there were four or five men at the front all wearing military uniforms. Before Career-Con I would have said no to talking to an Armed Forces recruiter, and now I’m about to start one of the biggest chapters of my life working as a United States Navy Hospital Corpsman. The military offers so many benefits and opportunities that I wouldn’t have known about if I decided to stay home. I am very thankful to all the teachers and Administrators who work so hard to put Career-Con together. " ~ Samantha Disch, Class 2020
