Illinois Learning Standards

The Illinois Learning Standards

The Illinois Learning Standards define what all students in all Illinois public schools should know and be able to do as a result of their elementary and secondary schooling.

Why do we need standards?

Among the reasons we need standards are:

The Illinois Learning Standards establish clear and consistent goals for learning that will prepare our children for college and the workforce. These standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate from high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and in workforce training programs. The Standards are (1) research and evidence based, (2) aligned with college and work expectations, and (3) rigorous.
