On Friday, February 24 all ninth grade students were treated to a presentation by Mr. Schmit, Ralston’s principal. Mr. Schmit previously taught at the ninth grade campus and is a veteran of the war in Iraq. Mr. Schmit shared details of his time spent in Iraq including the weather, some spiders native to the area, and living conditions while in the army. He showed the students the proper way to salute an officer, as well as how to pack clothing efficiently.
In addition he covered the various jobs available to those enlisted in the army. Mr. Schmit talked with the students about what it was like to be involved in nation building and he shared with the students the privilege voting is in many of the countries in this region. This presentation was the culminating activity for the students’ study of the Middle East. We thank Mr. Schmit for his service and his willingness to spend the day with the freshmen, sharing his experiences.
