Alumni Spotlight: Patipan Pipatpinyopong Patipan Pipatpinyopong - Class of 2012, is a part of the new space race. 

Pipatpinyopong earned his master’s degree in aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Stanford University this spring and started at Blue Origin in Kent, Washington, about 20 minutes south of Seattle, in May.

Blue Origin is one of the two major privately-funded companies trying to make commercial space flight viable. Blue Origin was founded by Jeff Bezos, the same person who founded Blue Origin’s main competition is SpaceX, the California-based company founded by Elon Musk.

Pipatpinyopong, who got his bachelor’s degree from Minnesota in 2017,  developed interests in autonomous vehicles, aerospace vehicle control and space mission design while in college. He was a Lockheed Martin guidance, navigation and control (GNC) engineering intern in Littleton, Colorado, in both the summers of 2017 and 2018.


For Blue Origin, which this year announced plans to have a fully developed moon lander known as Blue Moon ready by 2024, Patipan is a controls engineer. Currently, he is working on controls algorithm development - used for stabilizing and maneuvering - for the launch vehicle.
