WELCOME to the S.M.Art Club informational page!
The S.M.Art Club is an after school art club that focuses on the most important art of all: The Art of Giving. In other words, we do not get together to create fun little projects to take home. Instead, we get together to create large scale, publicly viewed projects that benefit others.
The club meets once a week after school from 3:40 - 4:20 pm. Late bus passes will be available. Attendance for meetings will be in Room 520. This is the art classroom of Mrs. Meissen, the S.M.Art Club advisor.
The S.M.Art Club meetings will begin late Fall and continue through Spring. There will be announcements made and the schedule for meetings will be posted on this page. (The day of the week the club will meet will be determined shortly!) We meet throughout the year but stop meeting once we have completed our work for our latest large scale project, approximately the beginning of April.
Each school year, S.M.Art Club members workk on large scale projects for HMS. In the past, these have included sets for the Fall Plays, Holiday Music programs, and HMS Spring Musicals. Last year members shifted their focus to take on the large project of creating artwork for our main office area.
Also in previous years, S.M. Art Club members created a 24' x 8' lighted display for Sinnissippi's Festival of Lights in Rockford for three years in a row. Our club received an award for our display in 2103. The award was presented by the committee chairman Joe Marino, "Mr. Fourth of July." In 2014, Joe Marino also publicly thanked our club by creating a large sign that acknowledged the restoration work we did on their candy canes and elves displays. For five consecutive years prior to that, club members worked with Rockford's Habitat for Humanity to create hundreds of ceramic tiles used for their annual charity race fundraising event.
Though funding is provided for the supplies used in the creation of things like the Fall Play and Spring Musical, no funding is provided for our charitable work or for other large scale projects. Every supply needed is purchased through very limited fundraising. Our club creates and sells things (like holiday ornaments, candle holders) at just a few school events. Club members volunteer to help sell as schedules permit, and have a lot of fun doing it!
It is also important to note that it is common for members participate in other activities and sports. We make this work! If you are interested in becoming a S.M.Art Club member, please attend the short informational meeting in November. (There will be many anouncemts for this, and information on this page once the date has been finalized.) Hope to see you then!
