Harlem Student Scholarships

  • There are several Harlem scholarships available to Harlem High School seniors and graduates.  Be sure to use the 2018 applications.  (Scholarship applications will be attached to each description when they become available.)  All scholarship applications are in Adobe Acrobat format. 

    The scholarships below are for Harlem students exclusively.

    *MOST SCHOLARSHIPS ARE POSTED IN THE COUNSELING OFFICE BY THE END OF NOVEMBER


    The Amanda Kordich Spirit Scholarship - $1,000

    The Spirit Scholarship will be awarded to a current or past Harlem graduate who shows spirit through their involvement in school, their kindness and compassion toward other community members and their strong determination to attend college.  Due the end of February.

    The Harlem Fans Club - Two at $1,000 each

    The Ruth Evan’s Memorial Scholarship will be given to one male and one female. You must be a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above.  You must be of good moral character and have been involved in or supported Harlem athletics, either as a participant or manager, or as a member of a supportive group such as Spirit Squad.  You must be a member of at least one other school approved club and/or organization.  Due the first week of March.

    Harlem Federation of Teachers Tony Babcock Memorial Scholarship - $500

    Anthony "Tony" Babcock was a student in the Harlem District from his days at Loves Park Elementary to his graduation from Harlem High School in 1992.  He was very involved in the opportunities this district had to offer.  He was a spirited student and alumnus.  He went on to study music at Millikin University and became a teacher in the Rockford School District.  His dream had always been to return to his beloved high school to teach band where he developed his talent and love for music.  Sadly, after a long fight, Tony finally succumbed to his cancer in 2005, leaving behind a loving wife, Heather, and three children: Hailey, Owen and Myles.

    The Tony Babcock Memorial Scholarship is for a Harlem High School senior planning to attend a college/university. You must have been involved in school activities as well as community and/or church activities. You must complete two essays.  Due mid February.

    Harlem Music Booster Scholarship - Two at $750 each

    These scholarships were established to provide educational support for graduates of Harlem High School who have been involved in the music department of the high school and desire to further their music education. Applicants must carry a GPA of at least 3.0, and be involved in at least one music activity at Harlem High School.  Due early February.

    Harlem Scholarship Foundation - $500 - $2,500

    The Harlem Scholarship Foundation was established to award scholarships to Harlem High School graduates wishing to continue their education at a vocational school or college/university.  The awards are intended to help qualified students who have a definite educational goal and need financial help in reaching that goal.  Due the beginning of March.

    The Maple Elementary School's Family Engagement Team Scholarship

    The Maple Elementary School's Family Engagement Team Scholarship has been established to recognize the outstanding achievements of selected applicant. Primary criteria used to select the recipient includes: at least two years of attendance at Maple Elementary School, quality of academic record during high school years, service to the community, financial need, and character statements from Harlem High School.  Due February 19, 2017.

    Marie Mitchell Softball Scholarship - $500

    The Marie Mitchell Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a senior softball player. This scholarship is not just for the “superstar”, it is for the average athlete who puts her heart and soul into everything she does for the success of the team. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and finish the softball season in good standing.  Due the beginning of March.

    Marquette / Machesney Elementary School PTO Scholarship - $600

    This scholarship will be awarded to a Harlem High School Senior who attended at least two years at Marquette and/or Machesney.  It is based on quality of academic record, service to the community, financial need, and character statements. Due the beginning of February.

    Niraly Patel Memorial Scholarship - $500

    This scholarship is given in memory of Niraly Patel and is sponsored by Harlem High School National Honor Society.  The applicant must be a senior planning on continuing their education, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of 3rd quarter.  The applicant must be active in volunteer services and in the fine arts.  Due mid February.

    Olson Park Elementary PTA Scholarship - $500
     
    The Olson Park PTA Scholarship was established to award scholarships to Harlem High School graduates who attended Olson Park School at least two years and who wish to continue their education at a vocational school or college/university.  Due the beginning of March.

    Donald C. Parker Early Education Center Scholarship - $500

    The Donald C. Parker Early Education Memorial Scholarship was established to award a scholarship to Harlem High School graduates who attended Donald Parker Early Education Center.  Must have a good academic standing and plan to attend a college/university.  Due in mid February.

    Parker Blume Memorial/Ralston PTO Scholarship - $500

    The Parker Blume/Ralston PTO scholarship was established to memoralize Parker Blume, the infant son of former Ralston principal Jason Blume.  The Blume family has contributed countless hours to Ralston School with their kindness and generosity.  The Blume family will always be a part of Ralston  School’s legacy. 

     The Parker Blume Memorial Scholarship is to be awarded to a male senior at Harlem High School who wishes to continue their education at a vocational school, college or university. Applicants need to have built their foundation of excellence in academics and citizenship, and must show kindness, leadership, and public service within their community. Due mid-February.

    Joanne Magdziarz/Ralston PTO Scholarship - $500

    The Joanne Magdziarz/Ralston PTO Scholarship is to be awarded to a female senior at Harlem High School who wishes to continue their education at a vocational school, college or university. Applicants need to have built their foundation of excellence in academics and citizenship, and must show kindness, leadership, and public service within their community. Due mid-February.
     

     Rock Cut Elementary PTA The June Flores Memorial Scholarship

    The Rock Cut Elementary School Parent Teacher Association and the June Flores Memorial Scholarship has been established to recognize the achievements of selected applicant(s).  Applicants must be a senior at Harlem High School and must have attended Rock Cut Elementary School a mimimum of four (4) full school years. Due the end of February.

    Sylvia Staley Scholarship for World Language - $2,000

    The World Language Division at Harlem High School and Miss Sylvia Staley established this scholarship for a graduating Harlem High School senior who wishes to continue his/her study of a world language at an accredited 4 year college or university. Must have a minimum of 3 years of world language, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in the language sequence. Due in mid February
