The mission of the Harlem Middle School Community is to foster the educational growth and development of its learners by integrating academic challenges and social responsibility in a safe and engaging environment.

Enthusiastic StudentsThe middle school concept continues to be the foundation of our educational program for seventh and eighth grade students. The philosophy was put into practice at the request of the instructional staff and supported by the community of learners during the 1995-96 school year. Middle school concept involves having a common group of students who are instructed by a core academic team of teachers. The teachers and students form a team unit for building of cohesiveness and a sense of belonging. This structure allows for flexibility of scheduling and grouping of students and for "extras" such as Interdisciplinary Units that are not possible under traditional structure. Middle school concept encourages parent involvement. An outgrowth of this philosophy is the establishment of the Harlem Middle School Parent Teacher Organization. The PTO meets monthly to discuss and implement methods to assist staff and students. Parents are strongly encouraged to become members of this group.

Students at Harlem Middle School will receive a wide range of instructional offerings and have options to participate in many different activities. It is the goal of the Harlem Middle School community of learners to prepare students to enter Harlem High School with the skills to ensure success at the high school and beyond.
